SETAC Europe Awards
SETAC strives to recognise and honour outstanding contributions of individuals or groups of individuals to the environmental sciences and to the Society by means the Awards Programme.
Young Scientist Award (YSA) for the Best Platform and Best Poster Presentation
To become a judge please click on the link above and log in using your SETAC user ID and password. The presentations listed have been entered by their submitters to participate in the YSA.
Click on the star award icon to the right of the listing to sign up to judge that presentation. If you decide not to judge a presentation, click on the star award icon a second time to remove it from your list. The filters available on the panel in the upper right allow you to refine the presentations displayed. The adjudications listing beneath the filters are the presentations that you are signing up to judge. Once you add the desired presentations, they will be saved in the database and displayed on the adjudications panel. A PDF listing the presentations that you have signed up for is available by clicking on the PDF link at the top of the adjudications panel. By clicking on the iCal link at the top of the adjudications panel, you will be able to download an ICS (iCal format) file that you can open with or import into your calendaring program – this action should add those presentations to your calendar.
All judging forms will be printed by the SETAC office and will be placed into your registration packet.
The SETAC Europe Young Scientist Awards (YSA) include the best platform and the best poster award.
The two Young Scientist Awards are intended to honour individual prominent performance in scientific work of a student OR a scientist within 3 year from BSc or MSc graduation, OR a PhD student. The award winners are invited to the next Annual Meeting. The ECETOC Best Platform Award honours the early career scientist with the best platform presentation at the SETAC Europe Annual Meeting. The Best Poster Award honours the early career scientist with the best poster presentation at the SETAC Europe Annual Meeting.
To be considered you must be the first AND presenting author of the submitted paper. ONLY ONE YSA submission per person will be accepted. If you submit multiple abstracts for consideration for the YSA, your abstracts will not be taken into consideration for the YSA.

- Registration: Register for the Young Scientist Award during the abstract submission.
- Re-confirmation: After the abstract acceptance letter end of January, every YSA candidates will receive an email asking to confirm their participation at the Young Scientist Award.
- Presentation: Platform presentations will be judged during the session. Poster presentations will be evaluated during the coffee and lunch breaks.
- Awarding: The winner of the best platform and poster presentation will be announced on Thursday afternoon at the closing ceremony.
The platform or poster presentation will be evaluated by senior scientists on the basis of originality of the approach; quality of the work (e.g. appropriate methodology, interpretation of results, conclusiveness); quality of the presentation (e.g. clarity, response to questions); and self-reliance and independence.
